I wouldn't call Lum a tsundere, even though that is a pretty common claim for whatever reason. She's clearly more in the yandere direction.
Some flavor of dere then (kekkondere?). Not so much as yandere IMO. She's crazy and a jerk (like Ataru), but not kill you if you reject her crazy... though she did try to crash and kill everyone with that telephone episode... Good thing this is a comedy series. 😅
I was thinking Guudere but she's not really any kind of Tsundere, what with her being quite open about having affection for Ataru. The usual terms don't apply. Definitely not Yandere though as while she'd be broken-hearted and possibly attack him and his lover as a spur of the moment thing, I don't think Lum would actually do anything like committing murder if her desired partner doesn't return her feelings.
Lum is a deretsun. A deretsun is a term for a tsundere whose dere side is their default mood. They are sweet, kind and generous, but have a hidden irritable side that comes out around their love interest.
Lumdere.
I had the same feeling and I got to ask some boomers. She is the OG Tsundere according to them, just that the trope has changed a lot over the years.
Thanks for asking around! :)
I had been getting that suspicion for a while (that it has changed), but your data point tipped it over for me. Did they give a reason for it too, or were they just as vexed by the question as we (?) are about Lum-as-a-tsundere?
I guess it's true that you will only care once they're gone
She's the og VA? This makes the anime so much better. Paying proper homenage to it's successor. Like the time smallville featured the past superman.
The homage was already confirmed early lol.
- The original VA for Ataru became Ataru's Dad
- The original Va for Lum became Lum's mom.
I remember the last episode when ataru's dad saw ataru's mom giving that food to rei it's hilarious
Nooooo, that's so coool!!! I never got to see original, I have to... Hopefully watching this newer remake will aid me in getting over the old format.
The homage was already excellent with the OP
Yeah
I love Lum. A weeb could only be so lucky to have a waifu like her.
She is the definition of a true loyal waifu….. I wish my dreams would come true (crying in bed while condemning this harsh world). Life is bitch. Thanks to anime it easies our crazy lifetime.
Was expecting though that they'd have done the battle of the moms episode but we didn't get that. Ataru's mom really shows her true colors in it when she gambles. lol. They did do the episode of Lum leaving for a few days well enough though. Also Lum mentions Ten. Wonder if the brat will show up soon.
Maybe we can expect a "darling" if she's together with Lum's dad later?
Ten's in the series' poster/cover or whatever it's called, so he's guaranteed to appear later. At least he didn't come out too early when he shouldn't have like in the older series.
Actually he never comes out early in the original. The one who comes out early is Ran in the new adaption which is obvious why because they were cramming Rei and Ran's story. Ran came after pretty much everyone shown so far and would've come after Ten. Rei was literally one of the first characters to show but he'd show up in the series but we see him as nearly one the later characters in the new one. Rei would show a few times and go 20 episodes without being seen like most characters. In terms people assuming Ten showed up early looked at comments from someone who didn't read the manga and made the comment last episode and likely read the wiki of his introduction. Episode 50 mind you is like 3 years into the series and episodes generally take up 2 to 3 chapters in general so think how early chapter 64 is. LoL. The original series essentially lasted about decade long mind you. They did a lot of cramming to put the first 60 episodes into 12 episodes in the new adaption. This changed some things like Ataru's kiss to the Tengu princess making it more forceful then coincidental and Mendo showing up much earlier then he was suppose to. The Tengu princess meets Mendo later in which she chooses him over Ataru hence we don't get her trying to brainwash Ataru either. Some things like Ran's introduction makes no sense in the new adaption as they removed her backstory and cut out Rans mother as well.
For the most part of Ataru stating Lum would never leave him and Ataru essentially sad of Lum's departure actually follows things correctly which is rare for the new version to do without missing any key points. Also I think it's the 2nd time in the series that Ataru shows true affection. The episode of Ataru getting a Christmas gift was the first. At least it's nice they didn't remove something that was vital for Ataru's character in the new one. Ataru's a fool that runs from Lum but cares about her deep down and Lum is extremely faithful to ever truly leave him and knows Ataru is the way he is.
That's her original va it sounds so closer to Lum the present lum
No offense but... duh? 😅
Depending on the character, searching for VAs that sound exactly the same as their previous VAs can range from "easy" (Pikachu?) to irreplaceable (uh, I dunno, Franky/Bon Kurei?).
Different VA, Previous Lum ?
Is this a remake of an older series ?
This is a modern adaptation of Urusei Yatsura. The older one s made in 1981.
You don't treasure what you have until lost it. And ending was something else.
While I was watching second half I've really felt it because I got some bad news today. However just seeing the ending made my mood up. Also made some tears down.
That's so true !!:
What we have we don't want it
What we want we don't have it
What we need is when it's lost
What we treasure the most is when we have successfully retrieved it.
Universal law of human emotions about what we can call "love" for anything.
When the Dalai Lama was asked what surprised him most about humanity, he answered “Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present"
Good statement this reflects on what human lifestyle some of us must have or had…. In the end one as a individual must cherish what we have in life… I wish or dream to have a waifu(s) like Lum (My be in the next life(isekai me)) protect them with our my mighty beign…. Out of topic there.
You mean we just need to be happy on what we have now
i'd kick myself if I lost someone like Lum-chan. She's got everything....other worldly looks...horn(iness)....long legs and nice figure...Great voice..
Ataru was hiding his feelings and it looked like ataru really cares about Lum just a little deep inside him
So, they don't really say it, but I always wondered what about Lum was undesirable. But I think it's just a joke on having an Oni Wife. Basically a wife who nags and makes your life miserable. Though in this case it's the opposite.
She electrocutes him regularly, which he has stated to be pretty painful. He was fine w/ her until that first time he got zapped
Yes. Shes too controlling, from Ataru pov.
Yea let's just ignore the fact she's controlling and abusive 😂😂
The thing about Lum x Ataru is that it only works because both of them are pretty shitty people. Sure they have good hearts deep down, but on the outside they're awful lol
all wives (most of them) nag.
some do more than others, a quote from a comedian:
if you want a wife, pick someone you want to murder the least and marry them (or something)
Is this the last ep for this anime?
No. It will be a split of around-22-23 eps each.
Okay,thx
Almost had a “battle of the moms” development, lol
Ataru finally getting that wake up call about what Lum means to him.
Yes, even with his pride on the stack at the end, he never knew that Lum heared him crying. That was so cute :)
Lum mom is a better milf. lol
hilarious that they were going to duel!
Yeah
I was wondering if the original VA of Lum would play a role in this series! Nice she voice this series’s Lum’s mom!
Yep
you never realized how important things you have until you lost it.
Yes but that could be different if you worked hard to obtain something you never had. This is the only "rule" that prevent yours ;)
Typical chain-translation/telephone game result
That Opening is amazing. The music is solid and the dance Lum does is too cute. The lyrics make her sound like a stalker though.
OMG it's so good to hear Lum's original VA again thru Lum's mom. Now I just need her to say "darling" again
EDIT:
- Okay they definitely added eyeshadows to Lum's mom to reference her being the previous Lum. She didn't have those in the older series IIRC.
- Ah Ataru being THE male tsundere. I hope the female tsunderes get some consequences too, especially because most of them are physical with their male romantic (which includes Lum!) interest even if it's mostly played for laughs. Compare that to Ataru refusing to hit Lum at all. A bit of a double standard if you ask me.
- Lol all this drama because of a passport. If Lum doesn't have her passport, she'd literally be an illegal alien 😏.
